Nabire – The handover of the suspect Kamenak Gire, also known as Tandangan Kogoya or Kamenak Kogoya, to the Nabire District Prosecutor’s Office marks a new chapter in the legal process concerning the murder of a member of the Mandala IV Task Force at Kali Mawar, Ilu District, Puncak Jaya Regency. This step has been positively received by the Papuan community, who are hoping for true justice and that the perpetrator will receive an appropriate punishment.
Antonius Murib, a community leader in Nabire, expressed his hope that the legal process would be transparent and free from any external interference.
“As the community, we want to see justice upheld. Papua needs peace, and if the perpetrators of crime are processed fairly by the law, it can serve as an example to others not to commit similar acts,” he said.
Meanwhile, Maria Wonda, a housewife in Puncak Jaya, added that the community has often felt anxious due to the violent actions carried out by armed groups.
“We want to live in peace. Hopefully, with the firm legal process, similar incidents won’t happen again in the future,” she hoped.
The spokesperson for the Cartenz Peace Operation 2025 Task Force, Kombes Pol. Yusuf Sutejo, also called on the public to support the enforcement of the law and to maintain security in their respective communities.
“We urge the public not to be easily provoked by issues that could divide us. The state is here to provide safety and ensure that the law is enforced impartially,” he said.
The Papuan community is now awaiting the trial that will determine the fate of Kamenak Gire. They hope that the eventual verdict will truly reflect justice and provide a sense of security for all Papuan residents.
