Ahead of Eid al-Fitr, Fakfak Prison Requests Remission for 44 Inmates as Part of Rehabilitation and Reintegration Efforts

FAKFAK, West Papua – The Class II B Prison in Fakfak, West Papua, has submitted a special remission request for 44 Muslim inmates in celebration of Eid al-Fitr 1446 Hijriah. This remission request involves the majority of the 61 Muslim inmates at the facility.

Rudi Rengen, the Head of the Prison Registration Section at Fakfak, explained to that out of the 61 Muslim inmates, 48 are eligible to receive the Eid al-Fitr remission. However, 13 others remain in detention and do not meet the requirements to receive a remission.

The remission varies in length, ranging from 1 month to 5 months, depending on the inmate’s sentence duration and the assessment of their behavior during their time in prison. Rudi emphasized that inmates seeking remission must demonstrate good behavior while incarcerated and actively participate in the rehabilitation programs organized by the prison.

These rehabilitation programs include religious activities, skills training, and other programs designed to help inmates reintegrate into society after completing their sentences. Rudi also highlighted the importance of spiritual development in the rehabilitation process and providing inmates with opportunities to improve their job skills, such as in the field of automotive repair.

Before the remission decision is announced by the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Affairs, all inmates will participate in Eid al-Fitr prayers at the Fakfak Prison Mosque. Rudi hopes that the celebration of Eid will serve as motivation for the inmates to continue improving themselves and serve the remainder of their sentences with responsibility.
