The Indonesian Retail Entrepreneurs Association (Aprindo) Papua: Staple Food Prices Stable Ahead of Eid

Jayapura – The Indonesian Retail Entrepreneurs Association (Aprindo) Papua has ensured that staple food prices remain stable during Ramadan and ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1446 H in Bumi Cenderawasih.

Aprindo Papua Chairman, Haris Manuputty, said on Friday that, besides prices, the stock of essentials like rice, oil, eggs, sugar, and flour is also secure.

“So, the public doesn’t need to worry about prices and stock in retail stores—they are all safe,” he said.

However, Haris noted a decline in consumer purchasing power. He hopes the disbursement of holiday bonuses (THR) will help boost spending.

“We hope THR will be distributed this week so that purchasing power can improve,” he added.

Based on monitoring in both modern and traditional markets, the number of buyers remains low, keeping prices and stock stable.

Meanwhile, Papua’s Assistant for Economic Affairs, Setyo Wahyudi, said after an inspection on Tuesday (18/3), stock levels are confirmed to be safe.

“We will continue monitoring staple food prices to prevent manipulation,” he stated.

Setyo reported that local egg prices are currently IDR 67,000 per rack, while sugar is IDR 22,000 per kg. Other staple food prices remain within a safe range.

“To maintain price stability, we will also organize a low-cost market program in Papua,” he concluded.
