Improving Human Resources in Papua Through Collaboration with PT Freeport: A Hope from the Education Office

JAYAPURA (ANTARA) – The Education and Teaching Office of Papua Province emphasizes the importance of PT Freeport Indonesia’s support in enhancing the quality of human resources (HR) in the region. It is hoped that the commitment of this operating company in Papua will continue, especially through its ongoing corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs.

Christian Sohilat, Head of the Education and Teaching Office, revealed that PT Freeport plays a vital role in the development of education in Papua. “As a large company, PT Freeport has a responsibility to invest in our human resources. Their contributions to the world of education have been significant, and we hope this support will continue to improve in the future,” he said during a press conference in Jayapura on Friday.

The local education office expressed appreciation for PT Freeport’s participation in supporting HR improvement programs. Christian conveyed that the region currently has a pressing need for new teachers due to the large number of educators approaching retirement. “We also need independent lecturers who want to continue their education. This is where PT Freeport’s role is greatly anticipated,” he added.

Alfons Ramidi, Group Leader of Community Economic Development at PT Freeport Indonesia, emphasized that the company has provided various social investment programs and technical assistance for the community. These programs encompass various sectors, including health, education, and economic development. “These initiatives have been established for a long time and have significantly benefited the surrounding community,” he explained.

Previously, the Dies Natalis event of Ottow Geissler University served as a platform to explore collaboration between educational institutions and PT Freeport Indonesia. With the theme “Collaboration of Educational Institutions and PT Freeport Indonesia in the Sustainable Improvement of Human Resources in Papua,” the event held in Jayapura underscored the importance of cooperation in creating a better future for the people of Papua.

With stronger support from PT Freeport and government commitment, the hope of enhancing the quality of education and human resources in Papua can be realized for the sake of mutual progress.
