Quick Response of Satgas Damai Cartenz: Evacuating Victims and Pursuing the Perpetrator of the Shooting

INTAN JAYA – The security situation in Intan Jaya Regency, Central Papua, was disrupted again following a shooting incident by an unidentified person (OTK) on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at around 1:20 PM WIT. The incident took place on Jalan Mamba, Yokatapa Village, Sugapa District, targeting two members of the Intan Jaya Police who were passing by on a motorcycle (KR2).

The attack on the police officers failed as the perpetrator’s shots missed their target. However, shortly after, the shooter directed their fire at a contractual employee of the Intan Jaya Civil Registry Office (Dukcapil), Michael Wattimena (29), who had just left his office and was walking near the Intan Jaya Regent’s Office. As a result of the shooting, the victim sustained a gunshot wound to his right hip, with three holes caused by projectile fragments.

Swift Response of Satgas Damai Cartenz

Upon receiving reports from eyewitnesses, the Jungle Patrol Team 7.6 immediately moved to the crime scene (TKP) to conduct a sweep. At the same time, personnel evacuated the victim to the Sugapa health center.

Medical examinations confirmed that the victim suffered a gunshot wound to his right hip.

Responding to the incident, Deputy Operations Chief of Damai Cartenz 2025, Police Commissioner Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., emphasized that the Intan Jaya Police, in coordination with Satgas Damai Cartenz, acted swiftly to manage the situation.

“We ensure that the situation in Intan Jaya remains under control. Our team has taken strategic measures, from securing the crime scene and evacuating the victim to sweeping the area to prevent further disturbances. We urge the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities immediately,” said Commissioner Adarma Sinaga.

He further stressed that law enforcement would continue increasing patrols and implementing preventive measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

“We will not stand idly by. We are actively pursuing the perpetrator and will ensure they are held accountable under the law. Public safety is our top priority,” he added.

Satgas Damai Cartenz affirmed that security forces remain on high alert and will continue taking strategic steps to maintain a safe and stable situation in Intan Jaya.
