Timika – The Governor of Central Papua, Meki Nawipa, motivated students from Papua who are currently studying at the Generasi Indonesia Jaya Untuk Semua (GenIUS) School located in Tangerang, Banten.
“Children from Papua, whether they are behind mountains, on hillsides, along the coast, or in islands, deserve to receive a quality education. Therefore, we will cover all school expenses and hope that the students at GenIUS will achieve success and contribute to the development of Central Papua,” said Nawipa in a press release received by ANTARA in Timika on Monday.
Governor Nawipa also mentioned plans to establish a Vocational Training Center (BLK) aimed at preparing skilled human resources to promote the future progress of Central Papua.
“For students from Central Papua attending GenIUS who are interested in becoming entrepreneurs or businesspeople, they can also participate in training programs on managing the region’s natural resources,” he remarked.
Esther Kurniawati Wirawan, the Director of GenIUS School, revealed that there are currently 188 students from Central Papua enrolled at the institution.
This number includes 120 students receiving scholarships from the Central Papua Provincial Government, 18 students from the Paniai Regency Government, 30 students awarded digitalization scholarships, and 20 students benefiting from scholarships from the Deiyai Regency Government.
Esther further noted that of the 120 scholarship recipients from the Central Papua Provincial Government, there are 12 students from Paniai Regency, 13 from Mimika Regency, 20 from Deiyai Regency, and 25 from Intan Jaya Regency. Additionally, there are 10 students from Puncak Jaya Regency, 18 from Nabire Regency, 10 from Puncak Regency, and 12 from Dogiyai Regency.
With ongoing support from the government and continuous efforts, it is hoped that Papua students can develop their potential and contribute to the development of their home regions.
