Acting Regent of Mimika Asks Diskominfo to Educate the Public About Counterfeit Money

MIMIKA – Acting Regent of Mimika, Yonathan Demme Tangdilintin, plans to summon the Department of Communication and Informatics (Diskominfo) to educate the public about the increasing circulation of counterfeit money. This initiative follows the discovery of counterfeit money being used for transactions at a bar in Mimika.

Yonathan believes that public education is crucial to help people recognize the characteristics of counterfeit money and avoid becoming victims. He has instructed Diskominfo to utilize various communication channels, including mass media and social media, to ensure this information reaches a wide audience.

“I will call Diskominfo to educate the public through media and information groups, without causing unnecessary panic. This is important to raise awareness so that people can distinguish between genuine and counterfeit money,” he stated.

Additionally, he urged the public to be more careful in every transaction. One recommended method is the 3D technique—observing, touching, and examining under light—to verify the authenticity of rupiah banknotes.

According to him, prevention can be achieved if people have sufficient awareness about counterfeit money circulation. Therefore, he hopes that Diskominfo will act quickly to provide education and disseminate information in a way that is easily understood by all segments of society.
