Wamena, Indonesia – Lapago Tribal Chief, Sem Kogoya, has urged the people of Papua to remain wise and discerning in facing issues that could threaten unity, emphasizing the importance of peace and stability in the region.
Speaking on Thursday (March 13), Kogoya addressed communities in the Papua Highlands Province, particularly in Jayawijaya Regency, regarding the planned ULMWP Lapago Regional Conference, scheduled to take place in Wamena on March 15, 2025.
According to Kogoya, the proposed conference should not be held, as it could disrupt the long-standing stability and unity in the region. He called on the people not to be easily influenced by movements that could undermine social harmony under the sovereignty of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).
“Therefore, as the Lapago Tribal Chief, I urge all communities not to be swayed by calls to participate in the activities planned by ULMWP in Jayawijaya,” he firmly stated.
Furthermore, Kogoya encouraged the people to uphold unity and refrain from aligning with groups that oppose NKRI. He stressed that separatist agendas only serve the interests of a few while potentially harming the broader community.
“Let us stand together to safeguard NKRI’s integrity by firmly rejecting separatist movements that seek to break away from Indonesia, often for the benefit of certain individuals or groups,” he concluded.
