JAYAPURA – Lapago Customary Leader, Sem Kogoya, has called on the people of the Papua Highlands, particularly Jayawijaya, to reject the planned United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) Conference in the Lapago region, scheduled for Saturday (3/15/2025). He believes the conference has the potential to disrupt stability and unity.
Sem Kogoya urged the community to be wise and not be influenced by invitations that could damage harmony within the Republic of Indonesia. “As the Lapago Customary Leader, I urge the entire community not to be influenced by ULMWP activities in Jayawijaya,” he asserted on Thursday (3/13/2025). He further mentioned that such activities could not only disturb public order but also threaten the sense of brotherhood that has been closely knit among the Papuan people.
Sem Kogoya emphasized the importance of maintaining unity and rejecting groups that seek to separate from Indonesia. He argued that KKB’s calls only benefit a few individuals while disadvantaging the wider community. “Let’s unite to safeguard the integrity of the Republic of Indonesia and firmly reject the separatist group’s selfish agenda,” he concluded. He also added that this effort requires support from all parties, including local governments and security forces, to ensure a conducive situation.
