South Papua Builds the First Palm Oil Biogas Power Plant

Boven Digoel, SAWIT INDONESIA – South Papua will soon have the first palm oil waste-based biogas power plant in the region. Tunas Sawa Erma (TSE) Group built a Biogas Power Plant in Boven Digoel Regency with an investment of USD 3.6 million.

Director of TSE Group, Luwy Leunufna, said this project aims to reduce dependence on fuel in plantation and factory operations. This plant will convert Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) into renewable energy.

This facility has two biogas tanks with a capacity of 7,800 cubic meters, which are capable of producing 2 MW of electricity for factory operations. With the operation of this Biogas Power Plant, TSE Group is estimated to be able to reduce emissions up to 60,708 tons of CO2 per year.

This development is in line with the global target of achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2050 as well as Indonesia’s commitment in the Paris Agreement to suppress the rise in global temperature below 2°C.
