Building Closer Ties with Timika Community, Damai Cartenz-25 Task Force Supports Local Small Vendors

Timika, March 5, 2025 – Personnel from the Damai Cartenz-25 Task Force carried out a humanistic activity with local vendors on Bhayangkara Street, Timika, on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. The initiative aimed to strengthen the relationship between security forces and the local community, as well as provide direct support to the local economy.

During the event, Bripda Irgi Alamsyah and Bripda Alfesa Hafiz Bagaskara engaged directly with local fruit vendors. In addition to casual conversations, they also supported the vendors by purchasing their goods.

The event took place on Bhayangkara Street, Timika, a busy area with many small-scale vendors, particularly fruit sellers. The location was chosen for its concentration of vendors, making it an ideal spot for direct engagement by the Task Force.

The initiative is part of the ongoing efforts of the Damai Cartenz-25 Task Force to build positive communication with the community. According to the Head of Public Relations for the Task Force, Kombes Pol. Yusuf Sutejo, such activities are crucial for establishing a humanistic approach in Operation Damai Cartenz 2025. He emphasized that the presence of police in the community is not only to maintain order but also to help improve the welfare of the people, particularly small vendors.

“We want to show that the police in Timika are here not just to maintain security, but also to build a closer relationship with the community. By supporting the local economy, we hope to have a positive impact on the social life here,” said Kombes Pol. Yusuf Sutejo.

The activity was carried out in a very humanistic and communicative manner. The Task Force personnel interacted directly with the vendors, purchased their goods, and engaged in friendly conversations with the locals. This approach successfully created a conducive atmosphere, making the vendors feel closer to the police.

One of the fruit vendors, Mama Maria Wenda, expressed her gratitude for the Task Force’s visit and the support they showed. “I am so happy that the police came to buy fruit and spoke kindly to us. Usually, people are scared of the police, but today we feel closer. I hope they can visit more often and continue to support us small vendors,” said Mama Maria.

Kombes Pol. Yusuf Sutejo further explained that activities like these are part of efforts to strengthen relationships with the community in Papua. “The humanistic approach is our strategy to make the police more approachable and accessible to the public. We want the community to feel that the police are not just law enforcers, but also part of the solution to the problems we face,” he said.

Additionally, Kombes Pol. Yusuf stated that similar programs will continue to be implemented to enhance cooperation between the police and the community in Papua. “We believe that with a good approach, the community will feel safer and support our efforts in maintaining order and supporting local economic activities that benefit everyone’s progress,” he added.

Throughout the event, interactions proceeded smoothly without any disturbances. Other vendors also expressed hope that such activities could be conducted regularly to further strengthen the relationship between the police and the community.
