Elelim – The Chief of the Yali-Yalimo Tribe, Akulak Lagoan, has praised the success of the Ops Damai Cartenz-2025 Task Force in apprehending police deserter Aske Mabel.
The arrest took place on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at 6:30 AM WIT in Abenaho District, Yalimo Regency. Aske Mabel was known for spreading terror in the region, causing widespread fear among the local community.
Akulak Lagoan, who is also a prominent community figure in Yalimo Regency, expressed his appreciation when met in Honita Village, Elelim District, Yalimo Regency, on Friday, February 21, 2025.
He revealed that since Aske Mabel defected and fled with four firearms from the Yalimo Police Department, the community had been living in fear.
“We are very grateful to the Ops Damai Cartenz-2025 Task Force for capturing police deserter Aske Mabel and recovering the firearms he took. This has brought peace of mind to the people of Yalimo,” said Akulak Lagoan.
He also prayed for the task force’s continued success in carrying out their duties.
“May God bless the Ops Damai Cartenz-2025 Task Force wherever they are assigned,” he added.
Furthermore, Akulak Lagoan emphasized that with Aske Mabel’s arrest, the security situation in Yalimo Regency has returned to normal. He hopes that similar incidents will not happen again in the future.
“The development of Yalimo Regency takes years—some projects take five years, three years, or even four years. We must not let criminal acts like those committed by Aske Mabel destroy peace in a short time. We, the people of Yalimo, do not want that to happen,” he concluded.
