Papua – The Indonesian National Police (Polri) confirmed that the claim by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) regarding the theft of two firearms belonging to Polri members in Puncak Jaya is incorrect information or a hoax. Polri stated that the narrative circulating is propaganda aimed at causing unrest in the community.
Head of Cartenz Peace Operations, Brigadier General Faizal Ramadhani, firmly denied the claim. According to him, the information conveyed by the armed group has no basis in fact and is only intended to provoke officers and the community.
“We confirm that the claim of the theft of firearms by KKB is incorrect information. This is part of propaganda that is deliberately spread to influence public opinion and create fear in the community,” Brigadier General Faizal told the media.
Brigadier General Faizal emphasized that Polri together with the TNI remain focused on carrying out law enforcement operations in Papua to protect the community from threats from armed groups. Polri will not be influenced by narratives created to divert the attention of security forces.
“We remain focused on our main mission, which is to maintain public security and order. Any KKB action that violates the law will be prosecuted according to applicable regulations. The Police and TNI are working together to ensure stability in the Papua region,” he added.
On that occasion, Brigadier General Faizal also appealed to the Papuan people not to easily believe one-sided information that cannot be verified. He asked residents to remain calm and support the government’s efforts to create peace in Papua.
“We appeal to the public not to be provoked by claims that are not clear. Official information will only be conveyed through official government and police channels. Together we must fight propaganda that aims to divide the unity of the nation,” said Brigadier General Faizal.
The Cartenz Peace Ops Task Force emphasized that the safety of the Papuan people is the main priority. With a measured and humane legal approach, the Police together with the TNI are committed to maintaining security throughout the Papua region.
On the same occasion, the Head of the Cartenz Peace Ops Public Relations Task Force, Senior Commissioner Yusuf Sutejo, also appealed to the public not to easily believe unverified information. He asked the public to always check the truth of the information circulating and not be easily provoked.
“We urge the Papuan people to remain calm and not be incited by the propaganda spread by the KKB. All official information related to the security situation in Papua is only conveyed through official Polri channels. We invite the public to work together to maintain peace in Papua,” said Kombes Yusuf Sutejo.
