Palu – The Head of the Central Sulawesi Regional Police (Kapolda Sulteng), Inspector General of Police Dr. Agus Nugroho, expressed his appreciation to 104 personnel of the Brimob Unit of the Central Sulawesi Police who successfully completed their duties in Operation Damai Cartenz 2024 in Papua. A welcoming ceremony was held at the Brimob Command Headquarters (Mako) of the Central Sulawesi Police on Friday (January 3, 2025), as a form of recognition for their dedication and success in maintaining security stability in Papua.
During the ceremony, Kapolda Sulteng conveyed his heartfelt thanks and deep appreciation to all Brimob personnel involved. He stated that their success reflects their high fighting spirit and professionalism in carrying out their national duties.
“We are extremely proud and honored by all personnel who have successfully carried out their duties with high dedication and extraordinary spirit,” said Inspector General Agus Nugroho.
Operation Damai Cartenz 2024, which took place from January 1 to December 31, 2024, successfully created a more conducive security situation in Papua. One of the major achievements during the operation was the release of Susi Air pilot Philip Mark Mehrtens, who had been held hostage by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB). The release was carried out through a persuasive, non-violent approach, which became a highlight in efforts to maintain security in the region.
Additionally, Brimob personnel from the Central Sulawesi Police were able to arrest several KKB members and secure firearms and ammunition that posed a potential threat to stability in Papua.
Kapolda Sulteng emphasized that this success was not only a point of pride for the personnel involved but also for the entire Central Sulawesi Police family. He hoped that this achievement would serve as a source of motivation and inspiration to continuously improve performance, particularly in facing future challenges.
“This success is a clear testament to the professionalism, commitment, and integrity that you have demonstrated in carrying out your national duties,” he added.
Kapolda also reminded that the spirit and success demonstrated during Operation Damai Cartenz 2024 should serve as a catalyst for further improvement, particularly in maintaining security in Central Sulawesi, especially with the upcoming 2024-2025 Simultaneous Regional Elections.
The welcoming ceremony was attended by the Deputy Chief of Central Sulawesi Police, Brigadier General Dr. Helmi Kwarta Putra Rauf, senior officials of the Central Sulawesi Police, and Brimob personnel directly involved in the operation.
