Papuan Figure in Malang Urges Papuan Students to Stay Focused on Studies and Avoid Provocation

The spirit of the Free Papua Movement (OPM) and its military wing, the West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB), to fight for independence remains strong.

Responding to this, a Papuan figure residing in Malang, East Java, Matthew Makuker, issued a firm statement regarding the issue.

Matthew emphasized that he rejects all forms of movements that incite division and steer public opinion towards the Papua independence narrative.

As a Papuan figure in Malang, Matthew consistently urges Papuan students pursuing education in the city to stay focused on their studies and contribute positively to society.

“I want to convey to my fellow Papuan students in Malang, stay focused on your education and do not be easily swayed by external issues,” said Matthew.

Matthew also condemned any actions by groups such as KNPB and AMP that seek to separate Papua from Indonesia.

He believes that the Special Autonomy (Otsus) program and the formation of New Autonomous Regions (DOB) initiated by the government have brought significant positive changes for Papua and its people.
