Jayapura, January 2, 2025 – Operation Damai Cartenz 2024 has marked significant achievements in enforcing the law and restoring security in Papua. The Damai Cartenz Task Force demonstrated remarkable performance through strategic actions, including the seizure of Armed Criminal Group (KKB) bases, arrests of members, hostage rescues, and securing public infrastructure.
Brigadier General Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos, S.I.K, M.H, Commander of Damai Cartenz 2024, revealed that in November 2024, the task force successfully took control of two KKB bases led by Elkius Kobak in Yahukimo. This milestone represents a critical step in disrupting armed group networks in the region.
“In addition, several KKB members were neutralized during the operations. One significant event occurred on April 11, 2024, when Damai Cartenz personnel shot dead two KKB members, Toni Wetapo and Afrika Heluka, who had previously been involved in various violent acts, including shooting at a commercial aircraft and attacking security personnel,” Brig. Gen. Faizal explained.
He further highlighted the task force’s success in rescuing hostages held by the KKB. This achievement underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of civilians against armed threats.
“Moreover, securing public infrastructure has been one of the operation’s primary focuses. For instance, in February 2024, after the KKB attacked and burned a health clinic in Omukia District, Damai Cartenz personnel responded swiftly and apprehended several perpetrators, preventing further threats to public facilities,” he added.
Operation Damai Cartenz 2024 has significantly improved security in Papua. With these accomplishments, the government remains optimistic that the region will become increasingly conducive to fostering development and improving the welfare of Papua’s residents.
