Jayapura, Indonesia – Rev. M.P.A. Mauri, S.Th., Chairperson of the Papua Churches Association (PGGP), emphasised the importance of cross-sector collaboration to ensure public security and order during December, a month filled with Christmas celebrations. He stated that effective security can only be achieved through collective efforts involving the community, the police, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and the government.
Speaking during the interactive dialogue program “Papua 60 Minutes” with the theme “December Security: Bringing Peace and Joy,” Rev. Mauri highlighted the need for unity and collaboration to maintain a peaceful atmosphere. The program, held at the TVRI Jayapura studio on Tuesday (December 10, 2024), featured Rev. Mauri alongside another key speaker, Papua Police Directorate of Community Guidance (Binmas) Chief, Commissioner Erick Kadir Sully, S.I.K.
Rev. Mauri called on all parties to support one another and strengthen the spirit of togetherness ahead of Christmas. “Let us collaborate and join hands throughout December. Let us work together with the police, TNI, the government, and the wider community. With this unity, we can surely achieve peace and joy,” he remarked with hope.
He further noted the importance of the presence of security forces during Christmas events, stating that it provides a sense of safety for the community. However, he stressed that security does not solely depend on law enforcement but also requires solidarity and mutual cooperation from all stakeholders.
Adding to the discussion, Commissioner Erick Kadir Sully reiterated the police’s commitment to maintaining security throughout December. He urged the public to uphold tolerance and actively support peace initiatives in Papua, especially during the festive season.
The interactive dialogue served as a platform to raise public awareness about the vital role of collaboration in ensuring peace and security. With strong collective efforts, Papua aims to celebrate December and Christmas in a peaceful, joyful, and secure environment.
Programs like “Papua 60 Minutes” have become a valuable initiative, connecting community leaders, religious figures, and security forces to foster dialogue and find practical solutions for a harmonious Papua. Let’s continue to join hands and strengthen collaboration to achieve lasting peace and security in the region.
