Papua- The holding of regional head elections or regional elections in Nduga Regency, Papua Mountains deserves to be an example for other regions in the Land of Papua.
Nduga intellectual, Emus Gwijangge, said that before the regional elections were held, many people were worried about the security conditions of Ndugama Land. Moreover, Nduga is said to be one of the potential conflict areas during the regional elections.
However, the people of Nduga can show to the lower classes that they are more capable of implementing peaceful democracy than other districts in Indonesia, especially in Tanah Papua.
“During the regional election stages, starting from the registration process for regional head candidate pairs, the campaign period, to voting day and the determination of the Nduga regent and deputy regent candidate pairs as elected by the KPU, everything went safely and peacefully,” said Emus Gwijangge.
The implementation of peaceful regional elections in Nduga cannot be separated from the awareness of the people of Nduga who long for peace and comfort.
Apart from that, the two pairs of candidates for Regent and Deputy Regent candidate for Nduga who took part in the regional election contest with their winning team, were able to discourage their supporters from taking action that could trigger a freeze between the supporters of the candidate pairs.
Emus Gwijangge said that the implementation of peaceful regional elections in Nduga was also inseparable from the role of the KPU, Bawaslu, KPPS, PPD, regional government and security forces who were able to act independently in carrying out their duties.
“I would like to express my gratitude to all stakeholders, KPU, Bawaslu, KPPS, PPD, security forces, as well as all the people of Nduga district who participated in maintaining security stability during the elections,” he said.
Emus said he witnessed firsthand how enthusiastic the people of Nduga were in conveying their voting rights on November 27 2024, safely and peacefully.
“Nothing happened among the people. Everything runs safely and peacefully. “This is because the Nduga people carry out regional elections in a family manner, not politically, because both candidate pairs are native Nduga children,” he said.
