Jayapura – The Lanny Jaya Police are currently investigating an attack by unidentified perpetrators (OTK) targeting two Lanny Jaya Police personnel and a shooting that injured a civilian.
The Papua Regional Police’s Head of Public Relations, Commissioner Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo, S.H., S.I.K., M.Kom., confirmed the incident.
According to Commissioner Benny, the attack occurred on Tuesday, December 11, 2024, at approximately 12:43 PM local time, leaving Police Brigadier Tri Yudha Argadianto and Police Chief Brigadier Hidayat, S.H., with machete wounds, and a civilian named Bastam (43) with a gunshot wound.
“The perpetrator first attacked Brigadier Tri Yudha at a kiosk near Warung Bunda, seizing his firearm, an HS pistol, before heading to Warung Bunda and attacking Chief Brigadier Hidayat,” said Commissioner Benny.
He added that a witness, Police Brigadier Marthen, who was in the kitchen area of the warung, managed to secure one of the injured officers, preventing the perpetrator from seizing another firearm.
“The perpetrator then fired three shots toward the kiosk, hitting a civilian, before fleeing the scene,” he explained.
Brigadier Marthen immediately called for assistance from the Lanny Jaya Police.
As a result of the incident, Chief Brigadier Hidayat sustained machete wounds to the back of his head, Brigadier Tri Yudha suffered similar wounds to the front of his head and nose, and the civilian, Bastam, sustained a gunshot wound to the left abdomen that exited through his back.
“All three victims have been evacuated to the Wamena Regional Hospital in Jayawijaya Regency for medical treatment. They are scheduled to be transferred to Bhayangkara Hospital in Kotaraja on Thursday, December 12, 2024,” Commissioner Benny stated.
Meanwhile, Lanny Jaya Police Chief, Commissioner Nursalam Saka, S.Pd., M.M., said that the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Lanny Jaya Police is handling the case and is pursuing the perpetrators to determine their motives.
