Jayapura- The Chairman of the Synod of the Indonesian Gospel Tabernacle Church in the Land of Papua, Rev. Petrus Bonyadone, M.Th, appealed to all Papuan people to maintain public security and order (Kamtibmas) during the month of December. This month is an important moment for Christians in the Land of Papua to celebrate Christmas, commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ as the Savior of the world.
In his statement on Thursday, December 5, 2024, in Jayapura City, Rev. Petrus emphasized the importance of bringing peace to the lives of the Papuan people. “As we enter the month of December, which is the month for Christians to celebrate the Christmas of Jesus Christ as the Bringer of Peace, we in the Land of Papua in particular must always bring that peace into our lives as believers,” he said.
He also reminded that Papua had just gone through an important national agenda, namely the simultaneous Pilkada. Although the election has been completed, the stages of vote recapitulation and determination of the winner are still ongoing. Therefore, he invited the entire community to maintain a peaceful and safe atmosphere during the process.
“We are still following the next stages of the regional elections, namely the vote recapitulation. In a situation like this, I appeal to all Papuan people to maintain Papua as a Land of Peace,” he said.
In his message, Rev. Petrus quoted a verse from the Gospel of John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, nor let them be afraid.” He emphasized that this message must be a shared commitment to keep Papua peaceful and safe.
Rev. Petrus hopes that the Christmas moment can be a reminder for all Papuan people to continue to unite in peace and love, in order to create Papua as a blessed land of peace.
