Sugapa, Papua – Ahead of the 2024 Regional Elections (Pilkada), the Damai Cartenz 2024 Assistance Team conducted a series of activities in Intan Jaya Regency, Papua, on Tuesday, November 19, 2024. The purpose of this visit was to ensure security preparations for the upcoming elections, scheduled for November 27, 2024. The activities also included a coordination meeting with the Intan Jaya Police Department (Polres Intan Jaya).
The team, led by Kaminops DC-2024, Kombes Pol Irfa Asrul Hanafi, S.I.K., arrived in Intan Jaya at 11:00 WIT. The team traveled by air from Aminggaru Airport in Puncak Regency to Moses Kilangen Airport in Mimika, then continued to Bilorai Airport in Intan Jaya.
Upon arrival at Bilorai Airport, the team headed directly to Sugapa Police Station to hold a coordination meeting with members of Polres Intan Jaya. The meeting was attended by the Deputy Chief of Police of Intan Jaya, AKP Mattineta, several officers from Polres Intan Jaya, and members of the ODC Intan Jaya Task Force.
Brigjen Pol Faizal Ramadhani, Head of Operations for the Damai Cartenz-2024 Task Force, explained that the purpose of the assistance activities was to discuss various security measures ahead of the Regional Elections.
“The aim of this assistance is to ensure readiness and coordination for security leading up to the 2024 Regional Elections. This is crucial to creating a safe and conducive environment so that the democratic process can run smoothly,” said Brigjen Pol Faizal Ramadhani.
During the meeting, Kombes Pol Irfa Asrul Hanafi, the leader of the assistance team, expressed his appreciation for the preparedness of Polres Intan Jaya in securing the region.
“ODC 2024 personnel must remain focused on their main duty, which is enforcing the law against Armed Criminal Groups (KKB). However, they can also be utilized to support election security, especially in areas deemed high-risk. I also remind everyone to maintain their health and morale to ensure the operation runs smoothly and safely,” said Kombes Irfa.
Meanwhile, Kompol Reynaldo T. Bullo, Deputy Head of the ODC 2024 Task Force, reminded the team of the importance of vigilance regarding potential conflicts during the elections, particularly those involving mass unrest. He emphasized the need to regulate the use of live ammunition by ODC personnel to avoid mistakes that could lead to new problems.
Iptu Angel Mayor, Head of Sugapa Police, highlighted the potential risks during the election plenary and hoped that all parties would cooperate to maintain order and resolve any tensions according to legal procedures. He also expressed hope that the Intan Jaya Regency Government would provide full support to ensure the smooth implementation of the elections in the area.
After the coordination meeting, the assistance team continued their visit to several posts, including the Wabup Intan Jaya Post and the ODC 2024 Task Force Tower Post, to motivate personnel and ensure their readiness. Kombes Pol Irfa Asrul Hanafi reminded all personnel to maintain the security of each post, ensure cleanliness, and prioritize the health and safety of all members.
Kasatgas Humas, Kombes Pol Dr. Bayu Suseno, explained that the assistance activities in Intan Jaya concluded at 14:30 WIT, after which the team proceeded back to Sugapa Police Station to rest.
“With solid coordination between the Damai Cartenz Task Force and Polres Intan Jaya, we are confident that the security of the 2024 Regional Elections in this region will proceed safely and orderly,” concluded Kombes Pol Bayu Suseno.
