Pegunungan Bintang, Papua – As part of the preparation for the upcoming 2024 Regional Elections (Pilkada Serentak), Kombes Pol. Ronny Suseno, S.I.K., M.H., Deputy Chief of Operations for Damai Cartenz 2024, conducted a visit to Pegunungan Bintang on Tuesday, November 19, 2024. The purpose of this visit was to ensure the readiness of security measures and to provide guidance on the roles of the ODC personnel in securing the region during the elections.
Accompanied by several key officials, including Kombes Pol. Angling Guntoro, S.I.K., Head of the Intelligence Task Force, AKBP Agus Waluyo, S.I.K., Head of the Action Task Force, and AKP Rosman Latuconaina Mansyur, Deputy Head of Operations, the team arrived at Oksibil Airport, where they were warmly welcomed by the Deputy Chief of Pegunungan Bintang Police, Kompol Micha Toding Potty, S.H., S.I.K., M.H., along with other senior officers and sector commander Iptu M. Kasim Lating, S.Tr.K.
During the assistance activity, Kombes Pol Ronny Suseno emphasized the critical role of ODC personnel in supporting the security of the upcoming Pilkada. However, he made it clear that while ODC personnel could assist in the election security, they must not directly engage with the public in maintaining public order. The main duty of ODC personnel remains focused on addressing armed criminal groups (KKB) and insurgent groups (KKP).
“Identify high-risk areas for perimeter security, and any enforcement actions must adhere strictly to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP),”* stated Kombes Ronny Suseno.
He further clarified that the deployment of ODC personnel in support of the elections was a direct order from the Deputy Head of Papua Regional Police, who also serves as the Head of Damai Cartenz 2024 Operations.
“There should be no hesitation in deploying ODC personnel, but the technical implementation must follow the established duties and responsibilities of the ODC,” he concluded.
The visit to Pegunungan Bintang is part of broader efforts to ensure that the security forces are fully prepared for a smooth and safe election process in Papua, with a focus on maintaining stability and protecting democratic processes.
