Keerom, Papua – Herman Yoku Arso, the prominent tribal leader of the Greater Keerom community, has called on the people of Papua to ensure that the upcoming 2024 elections are peaceful, democratic, and conducted with maturity. In a statement delivered on Wednesday, November 14, 2024, at Kampung Sanggria, Arso Barat District, Keerom Regency, Yoku Arso emphasized the importance of sportsmanship and responsibility as the region prepares for the national elections on November 27.
“I hope the elections will take place peacefully. I urge all candidates, whether for governor, regent, or mayor, to bring the wisdom and discipline they have gained through their education into the political arena. You are visionary and educated citizens of this nation, so remain big-hearted, ready to accept victory or defeat. Whatever happens, it is the will of God,” said Herman Yoku Arso.
The tribal leader also reminded the people of Papua that the elections are not only a moment of political choice, but a vital opportunity for the collective future of the region. He stressed that the elections should be an inclusive process for all, regardless of location, including both the original provinces and newly established autonomous regions (DOB).
“This election is crucial for all of us. Let’s ensure it is conducted honestly, fairly, and with dignity. I urge everyone to vote – do not abstain. Every vote counts and will shape the future development of Papua,” Yoku Arso added.
Herman Yoku Arso further emphasized that, while Papua’s diverse communities may have differences, these should serve as an opportunity to strengthen unity, within the framework of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). As responsible citizens, he stressed that it is imperative for each individual to exercise their voting rights wisely for the betterment of the future.
“Elections are held only once every five years. Let’s make sure we use our voting rights to elect the leaders who will guide Papua toward a better future. May God bless us all,” he concluded.
Yoku Arso’s call for unity and active participation is expected to inspire the people of Papua to engage fully in the 2024 elections, contributing to a peaceful, secure, and prosperous democratic process.
