JAYAPURA – The head of the Port Numbay Indigenous Council (LMA), George Awi, has called on the people of Papua to support the Papua Regional Police in maintaining peace and order ahead of the upcoming Papua Regional Election in 2024.
Speaking to the media at his residence on Saturday (November 9, 2024), Awi emphasized that security is not solely the responsibility of the police but a collective duty that everyone in Papua should uphold, especially during the election period.
“Ensuring security is our shared responsibility. It is not just the job of the police or the Papua Regional Police; all members of society must take part, especially with the upcoming election, where security is of utmost importance,” Awi stated.
Awi highlighted that sustained peace and stability in Papua, especially in the city of Jayapura, will create a conducive environment for development and progress. He believes that a peaceful environment will encourage growth in the region.
“Security is vital. When Jayapura is safe, development can thrive. Therefore, I urge everyone to support the police in maintaining security,” he added.
In addition to supporting security efforts, the indigenous leader urged citizens to participate actively in the election and to avoid abstaining. He believes that by voting and maintaining peace, the people of Papua can elect a leader who is genuinely committed to the welfare of the community and who will fulfill their promises.
“I encourage everyone to exercise their right to vote and to contribute to maintaining peace in our land. In doing so, we can achieve a positive outcome by electing a responsible and dedicated leader,” Awi concluded.
