Jayapura – The Papua Police Chief, Inspector General Patrige R. Renwarin, S.H., M.Si., directly led the security measures for the official visit of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, General (HOR) (Ret.) Prabowo Subianto, to Merauke Regency on Sunday (11/3/2024).
President Prabowo Subianto arrived at the Base Ops of J.A. Dimara Air Force Base at approximately 6:30 AM local time aboard the Presidential VVIP aircraft. He was greeted by Papua Police Chief, the Commander of the XVII/Cenderawasih Military Region, the Commander of the 174/ATW Military Resort, and the Acting Governor of South Papua, Rudy Sufahriadi.
As scheduled, President Prabowo’s visit in Merauke included an inspection of Telaga Sari Village in Kurik District. For this visit, President Prabowo traveled by helicopter, accompanied by Acting Governor Rudy Sufahriadi and South Papua Secretary, Maddaremmeng.
The purpose of President Prabowo’s visit to Telaga Sari was to observe firsthand the implementation of strategic national programs aimed at supporting food security. During this visit, he received a briefing from the Minister of Agriculture regarding the food security initiatives in Telaga Sari and met with the local community.
Following his visit to Telaga Sari, President Prabowo continued to Wogikel Village in Wanam, Ilwayab District, Merauke Regency, also via helicopter. The inspection in Wanam focused on evaluating the progress of national strategic programs supporting food security and establishing Merauke as a national food hub, along with an overview of community activities in the region.
After completing his visits to Telaga Sari and Wanam Village, President Prabowo returned to J.A. Dimara Air Force Base by helicopter before departing back to Jakarta.
This visit has raised optimism among the people of Merauke regarding advancements in the region’s agricultural sector. The government’s food self-sufficiency program is expected to continually boost national food production and improve the welfare of farmers in Eastern Indonesia.
