Papua, Indonesia – A video depicting the tense atmosphere during a gunfight near an elementary school has gone viral on social media as of Saturday, November 2, 2024.
Details regarding the exact time and location of the incident remain unclear. However, the 45-second footage shows elementary school students hiding under desks and benches in their classroom, visibly frightened by the continuous sound of gunfire.
In the video, the sound of children crying out of fear is heard, with one student calling out, “Teacher, teacher,” in a distressed tone.
An unidentified teacher can be seen attempting to calm the students, saying, “Don’t cry, don’t cry,” while trying to maintain a sense of safety amid the chaos.
The school building shown in the footage is constructed from wooden planks, and the background is filled with the unsettling sound of repeated gunshots.
According to Seputarpapua.com, the gunfire reportedly resulted from a confrontation involving the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) against members of the TPNPN OPM group.
