Jayapura- Welcoming the 2024 Papua Regional Head Elections (Pilkada), the Papua Regional Police (Polda) has emphasized its commitment to remain neutral and not be involved in practical political activities during all stages of the democratic celebration.
This was conveyed by the Head of Public Relations of the Papua Police who is also the Head of the Public Relations Task Force for the Mantap Praja Cartenz Operation (OMPC) II 2024, Senior Commissioner Pol Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo, on Saturday, October 26, 2025.
He stated that the Police are guided by Law Number 2 of 2022 concerning the Indonesian National Police, especially Article 28 paragraph (1) which mandates that the Police must be neutral in politics and must not be involved in practical politics. In addition, paragraph (2) states that members of the Police do not have the right to vote or be elected in political contests.
Furthermore, Kombes Pol Benny added that Polri members who violate this neutrality provision will be subject to sanctions in accordance with Polri Regulation Number 7 of 2022 concerning the Code of Professional Ethics and the Polri Code of Ethics Commission.
At the end of his statement, Kombes Pol Benny invited all Papuan people and new autonomous regions (DOB) to jointly support the Polri in maintaining security and order during the democratic process, so that the atmosphere remains safe and conducive.
Thus, the Papua Police hope that the 2024 Pilkada can run smoothly without obstacles and all parties can actively participate in maintaining the integrity of democracy.
