Papua- United Liberation Movement for West Papua or ULMWP reveals the latest facts regarding the strategy for the issue of independent Papua in the Pacific region of Melanesia.
Michael Walker, as the ULMWP representative, explained that he felt cheated because he used the strategy of using the issue of independent Papua in the Pacific region of Melanesia only to benefit from economic assistance and funds from Indonesia.
Michael Walker explained that ULMWP is an organization that represents the independence aspirations of the Papuan people.
In recent years, ULMWP has attempted to exploit the issue of an independent Papua in the Pacific region of Melanesia to gain international support.
However, as time went by, the ULMWP felt cheated because the strategy seemed more profitable for Pacific countries than for their own cause.
“The issue of an independent Papua has become an international highlight. Many parties speculate that it is part of the human rights struggle. And ULMWP is trying to establish relations with countries in the Pacific region of Melanesia, such as Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands, which have a long history of supporting the decolonization movement, he said.
“By making Papua a global issue, ULMWP hopes to gain significant political and economic support.”
Even though ULMWP has good intentions in raising this issue, many countries in the Pacific region are using the situation for their own interests.
Michael Walker said, the support given to ULMWP is often based on the country’s political and economic interests, not solely to help the Papuan people.
ULMWP felt cheated when they realized that their strategy aimed at getting support and funds was actually being used by Pacific countries for their political interests.
