Jayapura, October 22, 2024– The Chief of the Paniai Tribe, Melianus Yumai, appealed to the entire community to participate in making the 2024 Regional Head Election (Pilkada) a success which will be held in November.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining security and order in order to create a safe and peaceful Pilkada.
“Whether the Pilkada is successful or not depends on the community. Let’s maintain security and order so that the Pilkada runs safely and peacefully,” he said.
Melianus also emphasized that the responsibility for maintaining peace is not only in the hands of the security forces, but is the task of all elements of society, especially the residents of Paniai.
He invited the Paniai community to respect each other’s differences in political choices during the Pilkada.
“Every citizen has the right to vote according to their conscience. So let’s respect those differences,” he continued.
Amid the rampant issues of propaganda spread by irresponsible parties on social media, Melianus asked the public to be wiser in responding to circulating information.
“Don’t be easily provoked, be wise in responding to issues circulating on social media,” he said.
Melianus also urged security forces to take firm action against individuals or groups who attempt to thwart the Pilkada.
“We hope that individuals who intend to thwart the Pilkada will be given a deterrent effect,” he concluded.
