The Indonesian Vice President Messages Papua’s Security Must Remain a Priority

Papua- Vice President (Wapres) of the Republic of Indonesia, KH. Ma’ruf Amin conveyed the message that the security situation in Papua must remain a priority. He considered that the security issue in the Papua region was one of the homework that had to be completed.

“We must admit that violent incidents still often occur against civilians,” said the Vice President.

On that occasion, Kiai Ma’ruf appreciated the efforts of the TNI-Polri in enforcing the law in a measurable manner and continuing to maintain and take quick steps to overcome various incidents that occurred.

“I hope that this situation will soon be resolved and everything can return and to our brothers and sisters who are still not united, I hope that we can live together, helping each other together to build a better Papua in the future,” he said.

The Vice President also hopes that the policy of accelerating Papua’s welfare development must continue to be sustainable with strong commitment from all components, both at the center and in the regions.

“We must develop Papua with a spirit of togetherness, remembering that Papua is an inseparable part of Indonesia’s diversity and unity,” he said.

According to the Vice President, strong, professional and integrity local leadership is urgently needed for Papua’s progress, especially with regional head elections (pilkada) being held simultaneously in November 2024.

“Whoever is elected will prioritize regional progress and community welfare. I hope that whoever is elected will prioritize this,” he said.
