Timika – The Call to Hold Security Forces for the General Election of Nabire Regency, Central Papua, was held at Nabire Old Airport on Tuesday, 15 October 2024. The Call was led directly by Danrem 173/PVB Brigadier General TNI Frits Wilem Richard Pelamonia. A number of important figures were present at the rally, including Ukkas S. Sos M.K.P (Expert Staff to the Governor of Central Papua Province).
Also attended by Yonas Yanampa, S.Psi., M.Sos, Division for Handling Violations and Data and Information Bawaslu, Central Papua Province. Apart from that, representatives from various political parties were also present to witness security preparations for the Regional Election. which was given the title Korem 173 Praja Vira Braja.
Chair of the Central Papua Province KPU, Jennifer Darling Tabuni, expressed her appreciation for the readiness of the TNI and Polri. According to him, this alert demonstration shows the readiness of the authorities to assist the KPU and Bawaslu in maintaining security in the 2024 Regional Election. Central Papua Province has four pairs of candidates for governor and deputy governor. The ongoing stages of the Regional Election include campaigning to vote counting and recapitulation.
“I urge the public to conduct politics in a healthy manner and avoid actions that could disturb comfort. Tabuni emphasized the importance of maintaining order and supporting the implementation of the regional elections peacefully. The public is asked to avoid spreading hoaxes, black campaigns and money politics. “Don’t abstain, because abstention is an action who is irresponsible in the democratic process,” he said
Tabuni said Apel held the 2024 Pilkada preparedness squad, providing motivation for the KPU as the organizer of the 2024 Pilkada. Support from the TNI and Polri was a moral boost in carrying out democratic duties in Central Papua. He also reminded that the regional elections in Central Papua Province would be historically important. As a new province, Central Papua must maintain a reputation for dignified and fair democracy.
“I hope that this regional election can leave a good political process for future generations. The election of leaders who are responsible and fear God is a hope for the people of Central Papua. As well as inviting all parties to avoid conflict and not spread false news. People in Timika and Nabire are reminded to not abstain from voting on November 27, 2024.
Tabuni closed with a message for the public to actively participate in the Regional Election. “Let’s celebrate democracy with dignity for a better future for Central Papua,” he said.
