Jayapura, October 15, 2024 – Ahead of the simultaneous Regional Head Elections (Pilkada) in Papua on November 27, 2024, religious figures continue to call for messages of unity and peace.
Two prominent religious figures, Rev. MPA Mauri and KH. Abd. Kahar Yelipele, appealed to the public to support the implementation of a safe and peaceful Pilkada.
MPA Mauri stated the importance of Papuan community unity in facing the Pilkada.
“Unite, join hands, support the success of the 2024 Pilkada,” he said.
He emphasized that although the community may have different political choices, a sense of brotherhood must still be prioritized.
“We may have different choices, but in brotherhood we must maintain it,” he continued.
In addition, Mauri also reminded the public to vote with their conscience, but still maintain public security and order (kamtibmas).
“We choose according to our conscience, while maintaining a conducive public order situation,” he said.
In line with that, Abd. Kahar Yelipele as the General Chairperson of the Papua Province Grand Mosque also invited the Papuan people to maintain peace during the Pilkada period.
“We are currently entering a political period, so let’s work together to maintain peace in the Land of Papua,” said Yelipele.
He added that differences in political choices are normal, and should not be a source of division.
“Different choices are normal, don’t let different choices become a problem,” he added.
Furthermore, Yelipele emphasized the importance of maintaining Papua as a safe and peaceful region.
“As a blessed little paradise, we must maintain a safe and peaceful Papua,” he said hopefully.
The appeal from these two religious figures can be a guide for the Papuan people in maintaining harmony and security stability during the Pilkada process, so that a healthy and harmonious democratic atmosphere is created in Bumi Cenderawasih.
