Jayapura, October 15, 2024– Ahead of the simultaneous Regional Head Elections (Pilkada) in Papua on November 27, 2024, Rev. MPA Mauri, a prominent religious figure in Papua, called for a message of unity and peace. In his appeal, Rev. Mauri invited the Papuan people to support the Pilkada which took place safely and peacefully.
Rev. MPA Mauri emphasized the importance of unity in the midst of society even though there are differences in political choices. “Unite, join hands, support the success of the 2024 Pilkada,” he said in one of his statements.
He also reminded that although political choices may differ, a sense of brotherhood must still be prioritized among fellow citizens. “We may have different choices, but as brothers we must maintain it,” he continued, highlighting the importance of maintaining peace in a diverse political climate.
In addition, Mauri encouraged the public to exercise their right to vote with conscience, while maintaining public security and order (kamtibmas). “We vote according to our conscience, while maintaining a conducive kamtibmas situation,” he said, emphasizing the importance of stability during the Pilkada process.
This call is expected to encourage the Papuan people to work together to create a peaceful Pilkada atmosphere and maintain unity amidst differences.
