There is information that the simultaneous regional head elections (Pilkada) in 2024 in several regions in Papua are predicted to not run normally. This is due to the issue of the potential existence of Armed Criminal Groups (KKB) or Armed Civilian Groups (KSB) which could be “used” by certain prospective pairs (Paslon).
This issue arose when the head of the National Commission (Komnas) for Human Rights (HAM), Representative of the Republic of Indonesia in Papua, Frits Ramandey, delivered a press statement to journalists, on Monday (30/9) where Frits asked the regional head candidates in Tanah Papua not to involve the KSB which has the potential to commit violence in the upcoming democratic party
Responding to this large amount of information, the Deputy Chief of Papua Regional Police, Brigadier General Dr. Faizal Ramadhani said that he is currently investigating this issue. “Regarding that, we are looking into it, we are currently carrying out an investigation,” said Brigadier General Faizal. Based on the information, the Deputy Chief of Regional Police said that the whereabouts of the information could not be confirmed but the investigation was still ongoing.
“Are they in quotation marks taking part, but we are not sure whether they are or not,” he explained. Brigadier General Faizal further said that in relation to candidate pairs who violate the regional elections, of course they can directly face the Director of General Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimum).
Meanwhile, it is related to the KKB which was used by certain candidate pairs to carry out acts of terror to achieve a goal, with the intention of taking firm action in the form of law enforcement. “But if it is an armed armed group, in principle, as long as it carries out actions and other activities, we will still enforce the law,” stressed Brigadier General Faizal.
He also appealed to all personnel to maintain and maintain the situation and conditions remain conducive. Brigadier General Faizal hopes that the election and the inauguration of the elected regional heads will run smoothly.
“In the future, members will continue to provide security in the area during the Pilkada process and stages so that everything runs smoothly and safely,” he concluded.
