Jayapura- Papua Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Patrige Renwarin appealed to all Papuans, especially in Biak Numfor Regency, to be more alert to hoax information that often circulates on social media during the 2024 regional elections.
“Like mushrooms in the rainy season, hoax information often appears by highlighting someone in a negative light,” said Patrige.
Patrige reminded the public not to easily believe hoax information on social media. According to him, the spread of incorrect information could trigger conflict between supporters of certain candidate pairs.
“I hope that the public can verify the information they receive by asking the authorities directly, so they can ensure the truth of the information,” explained Patrige.
In the context of the ongoing 2024 Pilkada stages, he invited all elements of Biak Numfor society to actively participate in making the democratic agenda for the Pilkada on 27 November 2024 a success.
“In the 2024 regional election voting, the people of Papua will elect a pair of governor/deputy governor and regent/deputy regent. “We from the ranks of the Papua Regional Police hope that all stages of the simultaneous regional elections can take place safely, smoothly and conducively according to the schedule set by the KPU,” he said.
Regarding the neutrality of the National Police in the Regional Elections, Patrige emphasized that all Biak Police personnel must adopt a neutral attitude.
“Be neutral, prioritize the duties of the National Police, and do not take sides with any candidate pair,” stressed Patrige.
