Jayapura, Papua – Inspector General Patrige R. Renwarin, the Chief of Papua Police, personally inspected the security preparations ahead of the upcoming Regional Elections (Pilkada) in Papua Province. The visit took place on Tuesday, October 8, at the Papua Provincial Election Commission (KPU) office to ensure all security aspects are ready for the imminent democratic event.
During the visit, Chief Renwarin emphasized the importance of coordination between security forces and election organizers to guarantee a safe, orderly, and peaceful election process.
“We have deployed personnel to be stationed at strategic points, particularly in areas identified as conflict-prone,” Renwarin stated.
He also urged the public to maintain order and not be easily influenced by provocative issues that could cause division. “We hope the people of Papua will exercise their voting rights calmly, without pressure or threats from any party,” he added.
Ryllo Ashuri Panay, Secretary of the Papua Provincial Election Commission, who was also present during the inspection, confirmed that the commission is fully prepared to conduct the election while adhering to strict health protocols.
“We are working closely with security forces and various stakeholders to ensure the election proceeds smoothly and in accordance with the rules,” Panay said.
He further expressed hopes that the Papua Regional Election would be peaceful, with all elements of society and security forces united to ensure the success of the democratic process in Papua.
