Jayapura– The threat of hostage taking from the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) has resurfaced after a statement made by the KKB Spokesperson, Sebby Sembom.
In response to this threat, the Cartenz-2024 Peaceful Operations Task Force immediately took action by tightening security in vulnerable areas, including increasing the intensity of the pursuit of the KKB group.
According to the statement by the Head of Cartenz-2024 Peaceful Operations, Brigadier General Pol Dr. Faizal Ramadhani through the Head of Public Relations of the Cartenz-2024 Peaceful Operations Task Force, Senior Commissioner Pol, Dr. Bayu Suseno, patrols in strategic locations, such as pioneer airports, are now being carried out more frequently. This step was taken in response to the new threat conveyed by the KKB after the release of Susi Air pilot, Philips Mark Mehrtens, on September 21, 2024.
“We are increasing patrol and security activities, especially at pioneer airports. We are also continuing to pursue the KKB,” said Kombes Pol, Dr. Bayu Suseno in his statement.
The Cartenz-2024 Peace Operation continues to prioritize a persuasive and humanist approach, especially in nine priority areas spread across the provinces of Papua, Central Papua, and Papua Pegunungan. These areas include Pegunungan Bintang, Yahukimo, Mimika, Intan Jaya, Dogiyai, Puncak, Nduga, Jaya Wijaya, and Jayapura Regencies.
“This operation prioritizes community development, early detection, and establishing communication with the community. However, we are also ready with law enforcement measures if necessary,” explained Kombes Pol, Dr. Bayu Suseno.
With increasingly tightened security, the Cartenz-2024 Peace Operation Task Force hopes to maintain security stability in the Papua region and its surroundings.
