Jayapura – Head of the Papua Regional Police (Kepolda), Inspector General Pol Patrige R. Renwarin emphasized that the Papua Police are not playing around in maintaining security in the 2024 Regional Head General Election (Pilkada) in Papua Province, as well as in the new autonomous region (DOB) of the new province in Papua Regional Police jurisdiction.
This can be seen from the number of personnel who will be involved directly in securing each stage of the regional elections.
“Specifically, we at the Regional Police were given the task by the state to carry out a series of security measures for the regional elections in Papua, there are 4 provinces, 9 districts and 1 city. “We will carry out security seriously and optimally,” said Inspector General Patrige to journalists, last week.
Patrige Renwarin, who was just promoted to Inspector General last Saturday, also mentioned that approximately 10,516 personnel were involved in securing all stages of the 2024 regional elections, from the campaign to the final decision.
According to Patrige, the number of personnel came from the Papua Regional Police Headquarters as many as 3,931 personnel and from the Polres ranks as many as 6,585 personnel. For the main province of Papua alone, said the Regional Police Chief, there are more than 3,000 personnel who are ready to secure the regional elections. The rest was distributed in three new autonomous regions of Papua, such as in Mountainous Papua, Central Papua and South Papua.
“Of these 10,516, of course, for the province of Papua alone, which is said to be the main Papua, we have deployed approximately 3,000 personnel. “That’s the Regional Police and Resort Police for security in nine districts and one city,” he explained.
He said that there were several areas in Papua that were of concern to his party, because Bawaslu categorized them as quite vulnerable areas, namely; Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, Waropen and Mambramo Raya.
There are several reasons why these 4 areas are considered vulnerable, including geographical factors, security and so on. However, that is not a problem, said the Papua Police Chief. He even said that whether it rains, it’s hot or whatever it is, his party will continue to carry out its duties for the safety and smooth running of the 2024 regional elections.
The Papua Regional Police Chief said that his party would support the smooth running of the 2024 Regional Elections by prioritizing efforts to prevent disturbances in security and public order.
“Solidity and synergy between state institutions in making the democratic party a success are very important. “Many experiences have proven this,” he concluded.
