Jayapura- The Jayapura Regency Government (Pemkab) Communication and Informatics Service (Diskominfo) urges residents to be wise in using social media (medsos).
This follows many negative posts about ethnic, religious, racial and inter-group (SARA) divisions on social media ahead of the 2024 simultaneous regional head elections (pilkada).
Head of the Jayapura Regency Communication and Information Service, Gustaf Griapon, in Sentani, Monday, said that the people of the area must convey messages of peace in order to maintain security and maintain security at this time.
“Peace can be created when fellow nationals in Jayapura Regency can respect each other both in the real world and in cyberspace or social media,” he said.
According to Griapon, peaceful regional elections can be realized when people mature in using social media.
“On social media, post positive things, achievements, vision and mission of the prospective candidate pairs who will run, not tear each other down,” he said.
He explained that a black campaign is no longer a solution to attract sympathy because currently it is an event where each regional head candidate conveys ideas for the next five years of government.
“We hope that we will no longer put each other down, let’s work together to ensure that this Pilkada can run well and safely until the definitive regent and deputy regent of Jayapura are elected,” he said.
He added that postponing every activity that is always held conveys positive messages to the public to be wise in using social media.
“The issues played out in every post on social media can affect the condition of social security and order in Jayapura Regency, so guard this area until the Pilkada can end peacefully,” he said.
