Jayapura- Papua, one of the regions richest in cultural diversity and natural resources in Indonesia, is again in mourning. The brutal actions carried out by the armed criminal group (KKB) have claimed the life of a police officer in Lanny Jaya Regency. The victim was one of the nation’s best sons who had faithfully served and guarded development for the progress of the region.
This tragedy not only targets law enforcement officers, but also threatens the lives of innocent civilians. The actions of the KKB which continue to terrorize the Papua region can no longer be called a struggle for independence, but rather a criminal act that is very detrimental and destructive to the land of Papua. They do not discriminate in choosing victims, be it security officers or indigenous Papuans.
The success of development in Lanny Jaya so far cannot be separated from the full support of security officers, especially the police, who work tirelessly to ensure that infrastructure and social projects can run smoothly. They are not only tasked with maintaining security, but also participating in efforts to advance the region through various development programs.
However, with the ongoing attacks launched by this armed group, the sustainability of development in Papua is threatened. Will we continue to allow criminal acts like this to haunt the Papuan people? Of course not. We must unite to fight destructive actions that will only bring suffering to many parties.
Papua is a fertile land with abundant natural resources. This potential should be utilized to improve the welfare of the community, not be used as a field of violence. We need to work together to build Papua, create peace, and provide opportunities for the young generation of Papua to develop and advance.
There is no place for acts of cruelty that claim victims. It is time for us to fully commit to bringing peace and development to Papua, because the future of the land of Papua depends on the security and stability of its territory.
