Papua, Indonesia – Task Force Cartenz-2024 is ramping up efforts to maintain security and order in the Papua region following a shooting incident in Dogiyai Regency on Sunday, September 1, 2024.
The Head of Operation Damai Cartenz-2024, Brigadier General Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., confirmed that the perpetrators of the attack are strongly suspected to be members of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB), a faction known for its violent and terroristic activities in the region.
“We are currently pursuing the gunmen and conducting further investigations to identify the KKB group responsible for this attack,” Brigadier General Faizal told the media.
The shooting took place around 4:00 PM WIT in Kali Kasuari Village, along the Trans Nabire-Enaro Road in Dogiyai, Central Papua. The attack left a truck driver named Laa Duwi with serious gunshot wounds. He is now receiving intensive care at a local hospital, where his condition is reported to be stable.
This incident adds to the growing list of violent acts carried out by the KKB in Papua. Such criminal actions have instilled fear among the local population, particularly workers and residents who frequently travel through areas considered high-risk.
Authorities have also urged the public to remain calm and report any suspicious activities related to the KKB to the authorities. Public cooperation is deemed crucial in the ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security in Papua.
Task Force Cartenz-2024’s operations are part of a broader national strategy to foster peace and development in Papua, with a focus on law enforcement and sustainable progress in conflict-prone areas.
