Intan Jaya, Central Papua– On Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at around 14:55 WIT, in Sugapa District, Intan Jaya Regency, a shooting occurred by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB). The sound of gunshots was heard from the direction of Wandoga Village after Pasasgat personnel flew a drone to monitor the area. From the drone’s monitoring, one victim was seen lying in the area below the Wabu River.
The victim, identified as Raimon Gustam Kailimang, a TJP (Tigi Jaya Permai) project worker, was from the Makassar tribe. The victim suffered serious injuries, including a gunshot wound to the head that penetrated from the left ear to the right ear, a gunshot wound to the right arm, and a gunshot wound to the right chest.
Head of the Cartenz-2024 Peace Operation, Brigadier General Pol. Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., when confirmed said that the shooting was carried out by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) Kodap VIII Intan Jaya, Lewis Kogoya, which resulted in the victim’s death.
“The one who carried out the shooting was the KKB Kodap VIII Intan Jaya, Lewis Kogoya,” said Brigadier General Pol. Dr. Faizal Ramadhani.
Head of the Public Relations Task Force for the Cartenz-2024 Peaceful Operation, Senior Commissioner Pol. Dr. Bayu Suseno, in his statement revealed the chronology of the incident. On Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at around 14.55 WIT, in Kali Wabu, the victim Raimon Gustam Kailimang (MD) and his colleague, Robi Belau, went down to the river to get water. Upon arriving at the location, they got out of the car and took out a hose to suck water from the river. Suddenly, a KKB member carrying a long weapon approached them.
“The perpetrator, identified as a member of the KKB Kodap VIII Intan Jaya, Lewis Kogoya. Based on witness statements and photo identification results, the perpetrator shot the victim Raimon Gustam Kailimang from a distance of about one meter. The perpetrator also beat Robi Belau, the victim’s friend, before fleeing towards Mount Wabuk,” explained Kombes Pol. Dr. Bayu Suseno.
The witness who was at the scene was Robi Belau, a resident of Tigamasigi Village, who was also a victim of the beating. Currently, Robi Belau is still undergoing examination by the Caretnz-2024 Peace Ops investigation team and the Intan Jaya Police to gather further information regarding the incident.
Kombes Pol. Dr. Bayu Suseno emphasized that the victim was a civilian and not a government spy, as the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) has always suspected.
“The victim’s body has been evacuated by the Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force and Task Force 509/BY to the Sugapa Health Center and the victim’s body is planned to be sent to Makassar, his hometown on Wednesday, August 14, 2024,” concluded the Head of Public Relations.
