Timika – The 2024 Damai Cartenz Task Force, in collaboration with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), has initiated a sweep operation against the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) following the abduction and murder of pilot Glen Malcolm Conning on Monday (5/8).
Head of Public Relations for the Damai Cartenz 2024 Task Force, Police Commissioner Bayu Suseno, in Timika on Wednesday, stated that coordination has been established with the Joint Regional Defense Command (Kogabwilhan) III and the Timika Air Base to deploy troops to the area.
“The sweep is planned to last for at least two weeks. We seek prayers and support so that the perpetrators can be swiftly apprehended and brought to justice,” he said.
Bayu explained that on Tuesday (6/8), the joint TNI-Polri task force successfully evacuated the body of pilot Glen Malcolm Conning along with 13 civilians from Alama District, Mimika Regency.
“The 13 evacuees comprise eight healthcare workers, two teachers, and three children,” he detailed.
He added that the survivors who were with the late Pilot Glen Malcolm Conning would serve as witnesses to the atrocities committed by the KKB in Alama District.
“They will also assist in further investigations related to the tragic event that befell Pilot Glen Malcolm Conning,” he added.
Brigadier General Faizal Ramadhani, head of the 2024 Damai Cartenz Operation, stated that following the attack and murder of pilot Glen Malcolm Conning in Alama District, 13 civilians were successfully evacuated to Timika.
“The evacuation was carried out on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, using three Bell Helicopters, which landed at the Aero Modeling Runway of Yohanis Kapiyau Air Base in Timika,” he said.
