Timika_ On Monday, August 5 2024, at around 10.00 WIT, the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) took hostage and murdered a helicopter pilot belonging to PT. Intan Angkasa Air Service, Mr. Glen Malcolm Conning, New Zealander. Apart from that, KKB also burned an IWN type helicopter, MD.500 ER PK in Alama District, Mimika Regency, Central Papua.
The Cartenz-2024 Peace Ops Task Force together with the TNI-Polri combination from Timika immediately moved to the location of the incident to carry out a search. After successfully securing the location, the body of the pilot, Mr. Glen Malcolm Conning was evacuated to Timika using a Karacal helicopter belonging to Timika Air Base. The evacuation process started at 10.00 and finished at 13.00 WIT.
Head of Cartenz-2024 Peace Operations, Brigadier General Pol. Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., stated that 13 people were successfully evacuated from Alama District after the attack.
“The evacuation was carried out on Tuesday, August 6 2024, using three Bell helicopters which arrived at the Yohanis Kapiyau Mimika Aero Modeling Air Base at 15.00 WIT.” Said Brigadier General Pol. Dr. Faizal Ramadhani.
Head of the Cartenz-2024 Peace Ops Public Relations Task Force, Police Commissioner. Dr. Bayu Suseno, S.H., S.I.K., M.M., M.H., explained that the 13 people who were evacuated consisted of 8 health workers, 2 teachers and 3 children.
Police Commissioner. Dr. Bayu Suseno added that they would also be witnesses to the KKB’s atrocities regarding the murder of pilot Mr. Glen Malcolm Conning.
“The 13 people who were successfully evacuated from the Alama District have arrived safely in Mimika. They will also assist with further investigations regarding this tragic incident,” said Police Commissioner. Dr. Bayu Suseno.
He added, the Cartenz-2024 Peace Ops Task Force together with the TNI-Polri are committed to maintaining security and protecting the community from the KKB threat in the Central Papua region.
