Jayapura- Papua Police Chief, Inspector General of Police. Mathius D. Fakhiri, S.I.K conveyed security strategies related to the implementation of the upcoming regional elections.
Previously, he revealed that the regional elections in Papua had various difficult factors. Among other things, the influence of weather, security, the threat of horizontal conflict, and interference from the Armed Criminal Group (KKB).
Therefore, to anticipate these various problems, the Papua Regional Police (Polda) has requested assistance from the National Police Headquarters to assign Brimob Nusantara to help strengthen the implementation of regional elections in Papua.
The Regional Police Chief explained that Brimob Nusantara would be alerted in several areas to facilitate the movement and mobility of personnel if a security disturbance occurred.
“Even though it is not known how many Brimob Nusantara personnel will be deployed to provide security for the regional elections in Papua, the additional personnel will certainly really help secure every stage of the regional elections in Papua so that they can run smoothly,” he said.
He also explained that he would propose the personnel who would be seconded to areas prone to frequent KKB conflicts. As in Kab. Nduga, Intan Jaya, Puncak, Bintang Mountains, and Yahukimo.
Apart from that, the Papua Regional Police are also intensively approaching community and religious leaders so that they play a role in preventing disturbances.
“We hope that the entire community will not be easily provoked by rumors spread by irresponsible groups,” said the Papua Police Chief.
