Puncak Jaya Condition Gradually Recovers, Rebekah Haluk: Stop Spreading Hoaxes

Papua- The condition of Puncak Jaya Regency promises recovery after the conflict a few days ago and community activities have returned to normal.

This was conveyed by the Acting Governor of Central Papua, Dr. Rebekah Haluk, S.SOS., MM, Friday (19/7/2024).

He firmly asked irresponsible individuals or parties to no longer spread hoaxes that make people afraid.

Information from the team that we sent to Puncak Jaya reported to us that conditions there were safe and conducive. It’s just that hoax information is circulating which makes people feel afraid. However, we still guarantee the safety of the public and ask them to stop spreading hoax rumors. ,” he stressed.

Ribka Haluk said that a team facilitated by the Central Papua Provincial Government and the Puncak Jaya Regency Regional Government together with the TNI and Polri had held meetings with the victim’s family and the local community.

The meeting went well and resulted in an agreement to jointly restore conditions there.

“The people there have agreed to end this problem. They said yesterday’s incident happened spontaneously. “During the meeting, local youth will monitor security conditions there, because they want to celebrate the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia on August 17 2024,” he said.

He explained that at a meeting of the victims’ families and the community, they requested that a Fact Finding Team be formed from Komnas HAM and LBH to uncover the problems in Puncak Jaya. The TNI then responded well to this.

Earlier the local Dandim expressed his support for the formation of a fact-finding team. “I think this is good and we will continue to work hard to restore things there,” he said.

Rebekah Haluk said that people who had taken refuge in the Sector Police, Kodim and Sector Police had now returned to their homes. Even the economic center has resumed operations.

“The displaced residents are no longer there, activities have returned to normal. Even traders and motorcycle taxi drivers have resumed operations. “It’s just that operational hours are currently still limited,” he said.

Rebekah Haluk said that now government services are running as usual. This worst situation, which is already safe and conducive, can continue to be maintained.

“All government services have started running. Tomorrow our team will also provide motivation to medical personnel who were traumatized by this incident. “However, we ensure that health services continue to run and can return to providing services to the community,” he concluded.
