Jayapura, Indonesia – In response to the recent disturbances in front of Mulia Regional General Hospital (RSUD Mulia) on July 17, 2024, the government of Puncak Jaya Regency, Central Papua, along with security forces, have implemented preventive and restorative measures.
On July 18, 2024, a meeting was held at the residence of the Puncak Jaya Regional Secretary, Pagaleme, to discuss the restoration of public order. Attendees included Acting Regional Secretary Yubelina Enumbi, SE, MM, Puncak Jaya Police Chief AKBP Kuswara, S.H., S.I.K., M.H., Commander of the 1714 Puncak Jaya Military District, Lieutenant Colonel Irawan Setya Kusuma, S.Hub.Int, members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkompimda), community leaders, family members of the victims, and leaders of various organizations and technical departments.
The meeting aimed to mediate between the TNI-Polri (Indonesian National Armed Forces and National Police) and the victims’ families, facilitated by the Puncak Jaya Regency government, as part of the efforts to prevent further conflicts and restore peace following the unrest.
During the meeting, Police Chief Kuswara stated that the mediation team had already visited the grieving families in Muara District and agreed to a peaceful resolution. “This meeting has resulted in a peace agreement, and the situation in Puncak Jaya Regency is gradually returning to normal and conducive,” said Kuswara.
Furthermore, Kuswara mentioned that the Puncak Jaya Police would intensify large-scale joint patrols around Mulia City and conduct raids to confiscate sharp weapons from the public. “These measures are being taken to prevent any undesirable incidents in the future,” he concluded.
