Jayapura – Chairman of the DPR RI Dr. (H.C) Puan Maharani highlighted the continued occurrence of anarchic acts carried out by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB). He asked the Government to act decisively, but still prioritize the humanist side.
“The government must immediately take firm, comprehensive steps to resolve the problems in Papua considering that incidents continue to recur. “But the humanist approach must still be considered,” said Puan in a written statement received by the DPR, in Jakarta, Friday (19/7/2024).
As is known, the situation in Puncak Jaya, Central Papua, heated up after three KKB members were shot dead by TNI members on Tuesday (16/7). The shooting started when a number of KKB members attacked the Yonif RK 753/AVT Task Force.
The crowd then protested and said the victims were not members of the KKB. As a result of the protest, as many as six cars belonging to the TNI-Polri were burned by the masses. They also asked for a total compensation of IDR 3 billion for the three people who were shot as customary fines.
For your information, TNI personnel confiscated a homemade pistol and a Morning Star flag after shooting dead the 3 KKB members. The evidence is suspected to belong to the KKB group led by Teranus Enumbi which continues to terrorize civilians. This group is also said to often damage public facilities and attack security forces.

Puan said that the KKB’s anarchist actions must be responded to with strict law enforcement.

Puan also asked TNI-Polri personnel to ensure security and conduciveness in Puncak Jaya after the riots occurred. He also encouraged the optimization of collaboration and solidarity between TNI/Polri personnel in resolving the conflict in Papua.
