Papua- Lapago Traditional Leader, Yuranus Jikwa stated that he does not support the TNI and Polri in dealing with the KKB which is increasingly disturbing. Yuranus also emphasized to the members of the criminal group, especially those in the Lapago and Mee Pago traditional areas, not to shoot civilians, then make statements in the media that are not true.
“Collaboration between local communities and security forces in Papua has had a significant impact on the effectiveness of security operations, which has resulted in reduced violence in Papua,” he said.
Furthermore, he said that the presence of TNI and Polri units in key areas had provided a sense of security for the local community and reduced the ability of separatist groups to carry out large-scale attacks. As a result, violent incidents decreased, contributing to a more stable environment.
Apart from that, collaboration with local communities helps security forces in facilitating the implementation of development projects in Papua. The construction of roads, schools and health facilities is critical to addressing the economic chaos that contributes to conflict. The presence of security forces allows these projects to proceed by reducing the risk of attack or sabotage. By improving living conditions and providing economic opportunities, these development initiatives help address some of the root causes of conflict.
Chairman Lapago also said that local community support for security forces in eradicating the KKB was an important aspect of the conflict in Papua. This collaboration has a significant impact on the security and stability of society in the Papua region.
“Reducing violence and protecting critical infrastructure contributes to a safer environment, allowing people to go about their daily lives with less fear of attack. “This stability is very important for implementing development projects and improving living conditions,” he concluded.
