Jayapura – Clashes between groups broke out again in Kenyam City, Nduga Regency, Papua Mountain Province.
Head of Public Relations of the Papua Regional Police, Commissioner Pol. Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo, S.H., S.I.K., M.Kom, when confirmed on Tuesday (02/07/2024) confirmed the incident.
The Head of Public Relations said the incident started on Tuesday (02/06) at around 11.45 WIT, the two groups attacked each other in front of the Nduga Regency Regional Secretary’s house.
“Not long ago, 2 migrant people were evacuated after being attacked by the warring camps,” said the Head of Public Relations.
The Head of Public Relations said that the two people, Marianus Gery (63), the Church Pastor, who suffered a slash wound to the neck and a severed finger, died at the crime scene and Abraham Runga (51), who suffered a slash wound to the head, also died while being treated at the scene. “The joint TNI-Polri apparatus immediately took him to Kenyam Regional Hospital for further medical treatment,” he said.
“When traced back by the team, there was 1 person who had died whose identity and cause were still being investigated by the Nduga Police,” he added.
Meanwhile, Nduga Police Chief AKBP V.J Parapaga said personnel confiscated several equipment such as bows and arrows from the two groups.
“Currently a number of personnel are stationed at the location to anticipate further clashes between the two community groups,” said the Nduga Police Chief.
